Common questions

Do I need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for. Open the app and start adding your trip.

Does it work with no signal?

Yes. Your days, bookings, places and notes are on your phone, so they open on a plane or in a basement bar. The map and place search need a connection; without one, the app shows lists instead.

How do I move my trip to a new phone?

On the old phone, open Trip and tap Copy a backup, then paste it into a note or an email to yourself. On the new phone, open Trip, tap Restore and paste it in. Restoring replaces everything on that phone with the backup.

How are the walking times worked out?

They are estimates: the straight-line distance between two places, plus a fifth for the streets, at about 3 miles (4.8 km) an hour. That is why the app says "about". A walk of more than 40 minutes shows the distance instead, as a hint to take a taxi or transit.

Why does Walk the day open Google Maps?

Google Maps takes a whole route with several stops in one link, up to nine between the start and the end. Apple Maps links take one destination only, so Directions to a single place opens Apple Maps.

Can I add a place I saw on TikTok or Instagram?

Yes. In TikTok or Instagram, tap Share and choose Trip Organiser, or share a screenshot of the post from Photos. Next time you open the app it offers to put the place on the map. From a screenshot, the app reads the words on your phone to help find the place.

The app keeps the post's link so you can watch it again before you go. Neither app lets other apps read a post's caption, so if the name is not in the link or the screenshot, search for the place by name.

How do I share a trip with someone?

Open Trip, tap Share this trip, then Send the code. On the other phone, open Trip, tap Join a shared trip and type the code in. Both phones then see the same days, places and bookings, and each still works with no signal.

Anyone with the code can join, so send it only to people you are travelling with. Stop sharing on this phone keeps your copy and takes your phone off the trip.

Can I send someone today's plan?

Yes. On a day, tap Send the day's plan and choose Messages, WhatsApp, email or anywhere else. It goes as plain text, so they do not need the app.

Why are booking times not converted between time zones?

Times are kept exactly as your confirmation shows them. A flight leaves at London time and lands at Boston time, which is what you need on the day, so nothing is converted.

How do I use dark or light mode?

The app starts with your phone's setting. Tap the sun or moon at the top of the screen to switch; the app remembers your choice.

Why does it ask for my location?

Only when you tap Near me, to sort places by distance and show you on the map. It stays on your phone. You can turn it off in Settings, Privacy and Security, Location Services, Trip Organiser.

How do I delete my data?

Open Trip and tap Delete this trip, or delete the app to remove everything. Nothing is kept anywhere else, apart from a trip you have shared: it is deleted from our database when the last phone on it taps Stop sharing on this phone, or email us and we will delete it. See the privacy policy for the details.
